This is the privacy policy for Family Desk, a small web app that converts photos of school letters, emails, and messages into calendar events. We've tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at hello@familydesks.com.
What we collect
When you use Family Desk, we collect:
- Your email address and name from your Google account, to identify you and your family.
- If you connect your Google Calendar, we read your upcoming events so we can show them alongside the events you save here. We never write, edit, or delete events in your Google Calendar, and we don't store your Google events on our servers — they're fetched fresh each time.
- The events you save (titles, dates, times, locations, notes), so we can show them back to you in your calendar view.
- Basic session information needed to keep you logged in.
What happens to the photos you upload
When you upload a photo, it is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for text and event extraction. We do not store the photo on our servers — once the AI has read it and returned the events, the photo is discarded.
Anthropic processes the photo according to their own privacy policy. Per Anthropic's commercial terms, API inputs are not used to train their models and are deleted within 30 days.
What we don't do
- We don't sell your data to anyone.
- We don't run advertising on the site.
- We don't share your data with third parties for marketing.
- We don't track you across other websites with cookies or fingerprinting.
Third-party services we use
To run Family Desk, we rely on a small number of services:
- Anthropic — to read and extract events from your photos.
- Google — to let you sign in with your Google account, and (if you connect it) to read your Google Calendar events so we can display them alongside your saved events.
- Hetzner — our server host (in Germany).
Each of these services has its own privacy policy. We chose them because they take privacy seriously.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- Delete any saved event from inside the app.
- Email us at hello@familydesks.com to request deletion of your entire account and all associated data. We'll do it within 7 days.
- Email us to request an export of all data we hold about you.
Children
Family Desk is intended for adults (parents and carers). It is not intended for use by children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please email us so we can remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in any meaningful way, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and email you about it.
